Jakob the Liar, PG-13 119 minutes
When Jewish shopkeeper, Jakob, is detained at Nazi headquarters he overhears a radio broadcast announcing the advancement of Soviet troops. He shares the news with his friend upon his return to the Warsaw ghetto. The friend believes that Jakob has acquired a radio which is forbidden by the Nazis. Jakob decides to let his fellow Jews believe he has a radio rather than tell them what really happened, so that morale in the ghetto is raised.

This movie is set during the Great Depression and follows a young girl’s solitary journey in search of her father, who has left her in the care of their landlady, to find work in the Pacific Northwest. Jumping the rails and risking her life, Natty is determined to travel across the country to find her dad and become reunited with him.

A young peasant blacksmith becomes knighted and embarks on a journey to help drive back the army of Islamic crusaders who have taken control of the holy city of Jerusalem in the 12th century. This is a movie about the Crusades between Christians and Muslims over control of the holy city.

The Last of the Mohicans, Rated R 122 minutes
This film is a wonderful supplement to a unit on the French and Indian War in the United States. It is the story of rugged frontiersman Hawkeye who saves two sisters (newly arrived English settlers) from a Huron ambush. Hawkeye ends up in the middle of the battle between the British and the French for control of the American colonies.


Lawrence of Arabia, Rated PG 227 minutes
This is a semi-fictional account of the legendary British Intelligence officer, T. E. Lawrence. During the First World War, Lawrence operated behind enemy lines and prompted an Arab uprising against the Turks.
